Family Night Schedule Changed This Month - It is too hot to play golf at 5:30 PM so we have a different opportunity for you! Please consider attending the minor league baseball game on Saturday, August 14th at QuikTrip Park in Grand Prairie. The Fort Worth Cats are playing the Grand Prairie Air Hogs that eveing. It is also military night at the park with a special visit from the Tuskegee Airmen! We have 2 for 1 coupons available that evening courtesy of our friend, Jim Austin. Congratulations to Jamie Youree, who was selected to play in the Pebble Beach First Tee Open alongside Champions Tour players on Labor Day Weekend! Congratulations also to Sara Posey and Cain Rocha who were selected to play in a WalMart sponsored LPGA event with LPGA players in Arkansas the following week! Finally, congratulations to Jessica Liptak, who has had quite a summer, for her recent attendance at The First Tee's Life Skills Academy and for being selected to attend the Future Leaders Forum at Disney World in November! All of these opportunities are FREE to The First Tee participants selected. Look for more information about their experiences in the weeks ahead!

THE FIRST TEE OF FORT WORTH VS THE FIRST TEE OF DALLAS
On Tuesday, August 3, 2010, The First Tee of Fort Worth and The First Tee of Dallas went head-to-head in match play competition with the Fort Worth chapter claiming victory!  Of the 17 matches played, The First Tee of Fort Worth won 11 matches!!!  Congratulations to the students that participated and a special thank you to The First Tee of Dallas for putting together an awesome event!  There will be a re-match in the fall for The First Tee of Dallas to try to win back The Golden Boot!

GARAGE SALE
The First Tee Garage Sale will be held Thursday, August 26th thru Saturday, August 28th.  EVERYTHING MUST GO!!!!  If it is related to golf, we have it!!!  Items will be PRICED TO GO!  A separate e-mail blast will follow.

We will need volunteers to help with sorting and pricing Monday thru Wednesday and to work during the garage sale. 

CITY OF FORT WORTH PRO AM
The City of Fort Worth Pro Am benefitting The First Tee of Fort Worth will be held Friday, October 8th with a shotgun start to begin at 1 PM. The tournament will be a shamble format and cost is $100.00 per player.  We also need hole sponsors and auction donations.  If you are interested, please contact Coach Kevin Long at klong@thefirstteeftworth.org.  A entry/sponsorship form will be available on our website soon. 

AMON CARTER FOUNDATION MATCHING GRANT
The Amon Carter Foundation has approved a $250,000 challenge grant for our Capital Campaign to build the Ben Hogan Learning Center. This grant is a dollar for dollar match of any donation and is the final phase of our fundraising efforts to make the facility a reality! 

We would like all of our families to participate in our fundraising effort.  For the Therefore, NO DONATION IS TOO SMALL!!  Please help show your commitment to our program by being involved in the final push to fund our new building!  We hope to break ground in November!!  We will provide you with more information in the near future on our Moving Forward Campaign!

Iron Horse and Fossil Creek are offering a "Family Golf Player Development Program" for members of The First Tee program and their families. Families can access free range balls, reduced rate green fees, family clinics and discounts on merchandize and other services at each facility. The special rate for members of The First Tee is $85 per month per family. Through the end of September, any family that signs up for the program at either facility and brings us proof of payment for 1 month will receive FREE enrollments for 1 year in our Life Skills Classes and Camps. Lost Creek will also run Family Golf Nights for $32 per foursome or $18 per twosome on Monday and Thursday evenings beginning at 5:30 PM. Benbrook Par 3 offers FREE Golf to The First Tee members who present their membership cards when signing in. Rates are affordable for other family members as well! Beginning July 19th, The First Tee will offer "Get Out and Play" nights on Monday and Tuesday evenings at 6:00 PM. Dates of play will be August 2,3, 16,17.

A First Tee Staff member or volunteer will be on site every Monday and Tuesday on the dates above to coordinate groups, supervise play and make sure everyone has a great time playing this wonderful game. No need to sign-up, just show up and play. This is a great chance for our students to play with someone new or tee it up with your entire family. Adults and non First Tee members must pay their own green fees on these evenings.

Hawks Creek Golf Club is offering FREE golf for juniors during the month of August! They are having a gas pipeline put in so the front nine is closed, but they have the back set up with 2 pins and 2 teeing areas. It makes for a fun and interesting round of golf. The kids can also play 6-7-8 all day long FREE, the parents can walk with them and teach them as they go. No carts over there, but fun for the kids. If the parents want to play, it’s $20 for them and the kids are FREE to play the modified 18 (on the back)

The First Tee announces the Military Affiliate Program!
The Department of Defense has provided a grant to The First Tee that offers a voucher for current active-duty military and reserve families who do not live on a military base. The voucher provides FREE access to The First Tee of Fort Worth programming for a period of 1 year!!!

SUMMER & FALL TOURNAMENT INFORMATION
There are numerous opportunities for our students to get tournament experience this summer.  Some tournament information follows:

The Trinity River Golf Tour will continue to run through October.  The tour will end with a Championship Event scheduled to be held at Tierre Verde & Pecan Valley.  Junior Age Groups are 10-12, 13-14, and 15-17.  The membership fee is $30 per year and the cost per event for juniors is $35.  The tour will play courses in both Fort Worth and Arlington.  For more information, please visit their website at www.trinityrivergolftour.com. 

The Northern Texas PGA Junior Tour hosts a number of tournaments throughout the year.  Tournaments are available for all skill and age levels.  For more information on membership and tournaments, please visit their website at http://juniorgolf.ntpga.org/.

OFFICE NEEDS
We need administrative help with answering the telephone and management of email and volunteer communication.  The hours we need assistance are Monday-Friday 9:00 am - 1:00 pm.  

The First Tee of Fort Worth has a Blog!
Please visit  http://thefirstteefortworth.blogspot.com/ to check out the latest news, photos and video from The First Tee of Fort Worth! We will still use our monthly e-newsletter to distribute information and will update our website with all of our basic information along with bi-monthly postings of major stories. The blog will serve as a great way to stay in the know, including some live blogs from some of our special events. 

Thanks to Laura Wood, for putting all of this together. You can submit stories, photos and videos to the blog by contacting klong@thefirstteeftworth.org or by bringing your materials by the office or class at Rockwood by Saturday for publication the following week. Of course, The First Tee will be in complete control of the content of the blog and no public comment on the blog site is available. Check out our stories from earlier this spring!

EQUIPMENT PURCHASE PROGRAM
If you made a purchase under the equipment purchase program and have not heard anything about your order, please contact Mike Maday at info@thefirstteeftworth.org.  We have experienced some computer problems lately and want to make sure that everyone receives their equipment. 

For $70.00 you can purchase a set of junior equipment that can be traded in throughout the years the child stays in the program.  We will make sure they have age appropriate equipment through their first full set of adult clubs.  This is great way to purchase equipment for your child!  

GOLF VOUCHERS FOR CITY COURSES
Vouchers will continue to be sold at the price of $1.00 per round or $3.00 per card until the end of this year.  Beginning in the new year, the price per round will increase nominally.  To save money, you may want to stock up between now and the end of the year! 

MEMBERSHIP CARDS
2009 membership cards are not longer valid. Your bag tag will be your membership card with a special sticker from The First Tee office.  We have hooks to attach the bag tags so that they are removable.  In the meantime, please remove your tag for use in the pro shop if you do not have a membership card.  DO NOT TAKE YOUR ENTIRE GOLF BAG INTO THE PRO SHOP.
